Building Closet Organizers Improves Closet Organization

Building closet organizers is one of the best closet design ideas there is for those of you with even a modicum of do it yourself skills.

Most closet hardware is available in your hardware store and the lumber yard will even cut the shelving for you to the exact size. But please measure twice as they only cut once!

The vertical center support in the video is just a prefab closet shelf cut to size. Use "L" brackets to fasten the vertical support to the upper shelf and the floor - nice and secure!

Next use either shelf brackets or pieces of wood screwed into the wall (as Eric does in the video) to support the new shelf.

Then add your hanging rods which can also be cut to size at the hardware store.

This simple design for a closet gives you a double hang area on one side and a high hang area on the other side and almost doubles your storage space.

With a few tools and some vision Eric has created a simple new design. Closet organization will only be improved however if he does something about shoe storage. How will he be able to find both red boots if his little girl does not have a place to store them?

Shoe storage ideas for this closet might include small stackable shoe racks on the floor on the left side of the closet. There is plenty of room there to use the vertical space and the higher hanging space is perfect for out of season clothes for the little one.

An alternative to building closet organizers from scratch is just to customize the prefab ones. Try making the vertical tower using ready made modular closet organizers instead of building one like Eric does in the video.
