A Cheap Closet Organizer
Economical Closet Ideas for a DIY Closet Organizer

This is a cheap closet organizer you can do yourself with no building or carpentry skills.

Building closet organizers has never been easier. Just start with a normal reach in closet with a standard rod and shelf and follow these three simple steps for a DIY closet organizer.

Your closet organizing efforts have the potential to be expensive if you let it go that far, but even on a limited budget you can create, install, and use an efficient DIY closet organizer and no carpentry skills are needed.

All you need is an old chest of drawers, a purchased double hang closet rod, and a purchased shoe rack or closet shoe organizer.

Building closet organizers can be as simple or as complex as you like. This idea for a cheap closet organizer gives you all the elements you need to improve the efficiency of your space and corral your clothes.

Closet Ideas For Your DIY Organizer

These ideas for a creating a cheap closet organizer work best if you have bifold doors on the closet. If you have sliding doors put the dresser on one side so it is more accessible or take the doors off altogether and replace with a fabric curtain as shown in the video on building closet organizers.

  1. Take your chest of drawers and put it in the center of your reach in closet. This gives you the drawer space you need.

  2. Install an extra closet rod such as the one pictured here, on one side of the chest of drawers. These handy units simply hang from the existing closet rod to double your space for hanging shorter items like shirts and jackets. You have now more than made up for any lost hanging space taken up by the chest of drawers.

  3. On the other side of the drawer unit put a shoe rack or other closet shoe storage unit on the floor.

In three easy steps you now have shoe storage, double hanging space, and drawers installed. The existing closet shelf is still there. So you have all the necessary elements of a closet organization system.

Closet organizing can't get any easier or cheaper.

If you want it to look really nice then paint up the old chest of drawers with a nice white paint (use a semi-gloss latex) and add new hardware to the drawers.

If you do not have an old chest of drawers for this purpose then use plastic storage drawers stacked to the right height.

Now That Makes Sense!

Another cheap closet organizer but you will need a few carpentry skills (not much though!) with a demonstration video.

You can improve your new drawer space by using drawer organizers for jewelry and other items.

Keep your earrings organized on top of the dresser with an earring organizer. Place a small set of plastic storage drawers there to hold the rest of your jewelry.
