Do the Math Using the Clutter Control FormulaClutter control is an achievable goal, but only if the amount of stuff coming in to your space is less than or equal to the amount of stuff leaving your space. In today's abundant world there will always be more things to own than you have space for. However, once your space starts to fill up you will need to start balancing what comes in with what goes out. This is the next principle of organized living: It is a simple mathematical equation that balances the amount of stuff in your space. The one in=one out rule is used habitually by people who practice organized living. Not only do they control the amount of stuff coming into their space by using focused questions to help with their purchase decisions. but they also use the mathematical formula for balancing their stuff by making sure that room for new stuff is creating by letting go of something else. In direct contrast, people who have problems with stuff overwhelming their space are still stuck in the belief that the more they own the happier they will be. These people may even believe that abundance is fleeting therefore everything needs to be kept.....................just in case! Teach your childrenThe one in=one out principle is an excellent way to teach children about the good fortune of their abundance. If children are required to regularly give away or donate toys when they receive a new one they are less likely to grow up with a feeling of entitlement to abundance. Practice the principle of one in = one out to see how it feels to regularly have items leave your home and get your children started with this balancing act when they start to accumulate more toys than they can comfortably house in their own rooms. Try teaching your children that it is a privilege to be able to give something away and
let them select one item to leave their space before they are allowed to play with new
items received as special gifts for Christmas or birthdays. You
will be teaching your children an important lesson in not only valuing
their belongings but also a good lesson in the joy of giving. |
Susanna says
"Thanks Bev!" "I have a really hard time being tidy and I picked up one little tip that will make my life SO much easier." "My drawers are always such a mess because I'm always pulling things out and messing up my folding... and I'm just too busy to constantly refold!" "Now my drawers are so tidy, it's amazing! All I want to do is fold!" Anyways...Just wanted to say thanks. |
