If you have ever wondered how to iron a shirt then wonder no more! Here are the systematic step by step instructions using your own steam iron, to get that shirt wrinkle free in under 3 minutes. |
|
But first some ironing tips to make sure you get the best possible results from your ironing efforts.
- use as steam iron but make sure it is not too heavy. Even though it will take less than 3 minutes it will feel like much longer if the iron is too heavy for you!
- pre-heat the steam iron. If you try to iron when it is not hot enough you run the risk of water seeping through the steam ports and onto your shirt.
- use the proper temperature setting for the fabric.
- hang the shirt immediately after ironing (use a wooden clothes hanger) and let it cool before wearing
Here are the 12 easy steps and a few ironing tips to get that shirt wrinkle free in under three minutes.
Start with the left sleeve and part of the left shoulder.
The front of the shirt is facing you and the sleeve is on the ironing board. Ironing the front and the back of the sleeve at the same time will give you a nice crease in the sleeve from the should to the wrist

Next do the right sleeve and part of the right shoulder.
Repeat with the other sleeve...this time the back of the sleeve is facing you.

Next step, the left front
You should be able to fit the entire front of the shirt on the ironing board unless it is for a very large man. Ironing over to the side seam will occur in the next step. This step is to get the front panel nice and wrinkle free.

Still on the left side do the area around the side seam (side stitch) and the back.
Just move the front panel over a bit to position the side seam on the ironing board and you can ironing over the side seam and part of the back as well.

Now iron the top part of the back
With the entire back of the shirt now centered on the board you iron the top first...

Then the back (center)

Now you can finish up on the right side of the back in the underarm area and the right side stitch area.....

Next go to the right front and finish up the body of the shirt by ...

ironing the front forepart and buttons tab

Now the collar

Fold the collar down and iron again

Sometimes you get a better result if you touch up the shoulder area as the last step (optional)
