Kids Bedroom Ideas – Organize It and Have Fun Too!
by Rob Stone
The job of tidying a child’s bedroom should be done with the child’s agreement. It is also not a good idea to organize the room without the help of the child, as getting involved will encourage the child to keep their room organized and tidy. Most importantly, once it’s done they will know where everything is. Children need to realize the importance of keeping their things neat and tidy. They should be taught this from a young age so that this sense of neatness stays with them as they grow up. It is never a good idea to do everything for a child as they will come to expect everything to be done for them and will never learn the importance of looking after their belongings and keeping things orderly. Teaching this at a young age will help to establish a habit and an appreciation for tidiness. With young children it is especially important to teach them to tidy away their things after they use them and this will then be done as a matter of course whenever they are finished with something. A good way to create an interest in the child for keeping their room tidy is to make it fun. Listen to the child and incorporate their ideas into the style they would like their room to be in. Help them to keep the room organized so that their favourite things are easy to get to and also easy to tidy away again. There is no point in having things on top of each other in such a way that when they want to get to something they have to move a lot of other things just to get to them. Things that are not used that often should be placed higher and out of the way. Clothes should be organized in separate categories with favourite items close together and easy to reach. Try to make it easier for putting clothing away like putting sweaters on a shelf which is at the right height or having hanging space for clothes, shoes and toys, which is always a good idea as it can be visually appealing for a child to see their items when they open the closet door. Younger children may need help when hanging clothes but show them how this is done and get them involved or they will expect you to do this every time. Desks are also a good idea, especially with drawers as this provides a place for putting bits and pieces such as art supplies, school work and other papers, etc. There are many ranges of bedroom furniture that can be purchased to improve the look of a child’s bedroom as well as many accessories such as bed covers with matching light shades, rubbish bins and curtains. Taking the child shopping for such items can be a good way to get them excited about keeping their room nice and tidy. Children are influenced by what they see so if you want them to keep their room tidy then you should make sure that the rest of the house is kept tidy also. |
