organization makes sense

Breaking News!
The latest fashion trend does not include 80s clothing!

The latest fashion trend affects organized living in one of two ways:

  1. Either you pay little attention to the fashion trends and have a closet full of old outdated, ill fitting, and worn out clothes OR

  2. You are a slave to the fashion trends and buy clothing on impulse because it is cute or trendy and you just "gotta have it!"
Which are you guilty of?
80s clothing

The latest fashion today has little resemblance to '80s clothing. If you still have clothing in your closet with shoulder pads that would rival those worn in the NFL you might need to make some decisions about what stays and what goes in order to gain more space and more control of your closet!

how to get organized

A printable wardrobe planning checklist is available in the The Easy Organizer Kit.

You can keep up to date with size information and preferred wardrobe items for all family members with the personal information templates.

Your closet space is finite. It does not continue to grow to accommodate the items you want to put in it, and without some system in place to regularly purge your closet you will soon run out of space.

You Do Regularly Purge Your Closet Don't You?

Why do you keep '80s clothing instead of the latest fashion?

Could it be that:
Organized living - A systematic and controlled way of living that involves understanding how to achieve consistent and predictable outcomes in life's everyday processes.
  • You have gained weight and are hoping that you will be able to fit into that clothing again - even the 80s clothing?

  • Those clothes represent a past time in your life when you were really happy and content and you think that by keeping them you will feel that way again.

  • They are not your clothes? Perhaps you are still storing clothing from a deceased loved one and you think that by getting rid of the clothing you are "getting rid of" your beloved significant other?

Or could it be that the clothing belongs to a family member who has moved out but left their clothing behind?

  • Some of those clothes represented your hopes and dreams for the future and even though you have never worn them you think that you are discarding those dreams by getting rid of them?

If you have closet clutter and yet you keep buying more and more of the latest fashion you are engaging in a recipe for clutter. Every time you make a purchase something has got to go to make room for it! Something in and something out is the essential clutter control formula.

How long has it been since you cleaned out your closet?

Here is a trick to help you realize how long it has been since you wore something:
  1. Clean out your closet and hang all your clothing back on the rod with the hangers facing backwards. That means that the actual "hook" part of the hanger is facing towards you. Put a sticker on the wall of your closet and record the date when you put all the hangers backwards.

  2. Every time you wear an item put it back into the closet with the hanger in the usual way.

  3. Within a year if something is still hanging with the hanger backwards....guess what?? you have not worn that item for one year so donate it! You will know when a year is up because of that sticker on the wall!!

The latest fashion trend will eventually become old and another will take its place. Get used to regularly cleaning out and discarding clothes and other items that have long since lost their usefulness in your organized life!
