Simple Living is Organized Living

Simple living means reducing complexities in order to achieve a balance in life.

You do not need to "go back to nature", or live in log house, or give up the modern conveniences of contemporary life to achieve a less complicated life in your organized home.

All you have to do is understand what is most important to you in your own life. This means not just reacting to life's events, but rather engaging in proactive and conscious living.

Creating Balance in Your Life:

  • establish a balance between what comes into your life and what goes out.

  • seek to understand how systems work so you can set up systems for everyday tasks like laundry, paperwork, personal finances etc

  • plan your life so it is the life you want - your life doesn't just happen to you! Your life is produced by your actions. Planning means that you can anticipate what will happen from your actions and take the necessary steps to make sure that the result is the one you want!

  • "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
    Leonardo DaVinci

An organized home is important but is it the MOST important thing in your life?

  • define personal boundaries - Being able to set and respect the boundaries of your own life so that you can focus your energy on your own needs will make your life much less complicated. Setting boundaries, both physical and emotional, is a hallmark of organized living.

  • Create a family culture of independence and self reliance - you cannot be all things to all people. Your job is to create responsible independent adults who can go out in the world and look after themselves. Children can't learn that if you do everything for them.

Oprah has had many shows featuring the "getting rid of clutter " message but I recently caught an episode about simple living.

Two participants were profiled who were challenged to live without all the stuff they thought they needed. Limits were placed on their spending and shopping habits.

In both cases the participants were able to realize that their shopping and clutter habits were emotionally driven and by stopping the habitual accumulation of things and getting rid of clutter they opened up their lives for the things that were most important - their family.

And isn't that the main message here at Organization Makes Sense?
