Does the thought of organizing your closet make your head start to ache? Do you cringe at the thought of tackling such an unpleasant chore? Is your "walk-in" closet more like a "fall-in" closet? Well these 5 super easy organization ideas will help you get your closet in top shape in no time.

Tip #1 - Set Aside Enough Time

If your closet is a complete disaster, you need to set aside ample time to complete the clean out and organization project. As a general guideline, a small closet that needs tidying can normally be done in 2-4 hours. For a cluttered walk-in closet, you might need as much as 4-6 hours to get everything organized. By allotting yourself enough time, you can be sure to get the job done in one day.

Tip #2 - Be Prepared

The best way to prepare for a closet renovation, is to have boxes and garbage bags ready. Take the boxes you have and label them with "Keep" for things you want to keep but store elsewhere, "Donate" for things you can give to charity, "Fix" for items that you want to keep but need some attention, and "Closet" for stuff you want to continue storing in your closet. When you are sorting through your closet, place items into one of these four boxes or into a trash bag if it is not something you want to keep or donate.

Tip #3 - Be Hasty

It is important if you want to create more space in your closet, to be hasty with your clothes and shoes. If it doesn't fit you anymore, or you haven't worn it in the past six months either throw it out or donate it. By keeping every article of clothing you have ever owned, you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of clutter. Be brave. Throw it into one of the labeled boxes and quickly move on.

Tip #4 - Plan Your Closet Organization

Once you have completely cleaned out your closet, take note of the items in your "closet" box. Group all similar items together. For instance, put all of your pants together, blouses, ties, scarves, shoes, etc. Once all of the items are grouped together, make note of how much storage you need for each grouping. Do you need more shelves than hanging rods? Do you need an extra large shoe rack for all of your shoes? Make a note of what storage containers you need as well for the little items you want to store in your closet.

Tip #5 - Label, Label, Label

Now that you have gone to all of this work to get your closet organized, you want to be sure it stays that way. One of the easiest way to keep your closet organized is to label all of your boxes and storage containers. This will save you from having to dig through all of your neatly packed boxes to find what you are looking for. By clearly marking what is inside each box, you can easily locate the items you need and it will prevent the boxes you need most often from being buried at the bottom of the pile.

Completing these five simple tasks will go a long way to getting and keeping your closet organized for years to come.
